Members of the Sound Patterns Laboratory collaborate on various projects concerning:

  • Speech production

  • The link between phonetics and phonology

Current research projects include:

  • Production and perception of Mainland Southeast Asian register (SSHRC 435-2022-0047 - Marc Brunelle and Suzy Ahn)
  • Articulatory and acoustic study of laryngeal contrasts, especially voicing and register (Suzy Ahn, Marc Brunelle)
  • Long-distance phonotactic learning (Kevin McMullin)
  • Vowel laxing and harmony in Québec French (Phillip Burness, Suzy Ahn, Talia Tahtadjian and Beth MacLeod, Carleton University)
